The Holliston Police Department and Crossroads Financial FCU would like to make residents aware of a fraudulent scam currently taking place. According to Crossroads Financial FCU's website, "Our Financial Institution has fallen victim to a fraud scheme through the use of our cashiers checks. If you have received a letter with a cashiers check drawn on us THIS IS A SCAM. You have not won a "lottery" or "sweepstakes"; you have not been chosen to be a "mystery shopper"; there is no lady dying of cancer that needs help getting her funds from Europe."

DO NOT CASH THESE CHECKS! You will be held responsible for these funds if you cash this check and will have to repay your financial institution. We suggest you write "VOID" across the check and give it, along with any paperwork that you received, to your local Police Department.

There's a new scam that is trying to take advantage of these tough economic times. Holliston police has received a fraud report from someone who answered an ad in a local newspaper for a secret shopper job.

A letter and a $3,590 check was then sent to the victim. The victim was then asked to complete a survey at any Wal-Mart store, cash the check, and send a money gram payment to another person. Holliston Police say the check was fraudulent and it was from a company called Casemark Research Inc. The address on the check was P.O. Box 978, Portland, Indiana 47371.

Police say the Holliston person who received it did not try to cash it but instead took it to police who are investigating.
