New Year's Eve Safety Tips

Holliston Police Encourage Safe Driving

During the New Year's Holiday

Designate a sober driver before all holiday parties. Americans who drink and drive after holiday parties and festivities make the period between Thanksgiving and New Year's one of the year's most deadly and dangerous seasons due to alcohol-related crashes.

Plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before the party or celebration begins.

Do not get behind the wheel of your vehicle if you are impaired. Call a taxi, use mass transit, or get a sober friend or family member to come and get you

If you've had too much to drink, plan on spending the night.

Remember - Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive while impaired.

If you are hosting a New Year's party, remind your guests to plan ahead and designate their sober driver, always offer alcohol-free beverages during the event, and make sure all of your guests leave with a sober driver.

21 means 21.

Remember to be responsible this New Year’s because a safe end to 2008 is the best way to start 2009

To reduce impaired driving, the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's
Highway Safety Division (EOPSS-HSD) has a statewide campaign called
Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.

This campaign coordinates extra state and local traffic enforcement, paid and earned media, and community education during three-week mobilizations.

EOPSS-HSD also provides grant funding to the State Police to conduct almost year-round sobriety checkpoints with two Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobiles with support from local police.

Melanie’s Law was signed into effect on October 28, 2005. It significantly increases penalties for impaired driving offenses in Massachusetts, especially those involving repeat drunk drivers.
