To
reduce impaired driving, the Executive Office of
Public Safety and Security's
Highway Safety Division (EOPSS-HSD) has a
statewide campaign called
Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under
Arrest.
This campaign coordinates extra state and local
traffic enforcement, paid and earned media, and
community education during
three-week mobilizations.
EOPSS-HSD also provides grant
funding to the State Police to
conduct almost year-round
sobriety checkpoints with two
Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT)
Mobiles with support from local
police.
Melanie’s Law was signed into effect on October 28, 2005. It significantly increases penalties for impaired driving offenses in Massachusetts, especially those involving repeat drunk drivers.
