Tips for Adults:
Accompany your child on their trick-or-treating route or if they choose to go with friends, be aware of the route they plan to take
Set curfew or check-in times throughout the night so your trick-or-treater stays in contact with you
Encourage at least one adult or teenager to accompany your group of trick-or-treaters
Check their bag of candy before you child is allowed to eat any of them
Explain the difference between tricks and vandalism while they are out with their friends
Make sure each trick-or-treater has a flashlight or glow stick with them
Assist with your child's costume and make sure that it is safe and reflective
Tell your child never to go inside the home or car of a stranger

Tips for Kids:
Choose a costume that is safe by making sure that it is fire proof and has reflective material
Use a pumpkin carving knife only when there is a parent or an adult with you to help
Do not talk to strangers or other people that you are unfamiliar with
Do not accept rides or help from people you do not know
Cross the street only in a well-lit area and make sure to check both ways before you do so
Don't eat candy or treats until it is inspected by a parent or guardian
Arrive home before or at your curfew time
Call your parents if you plan to alter or change your trick-or-treating route
Stay in well-lit areas and on main streets. Don't cut through alley ways or backyards
Always stay together in a group and don't wander off alone
